In February this year, after the Party Central Committee and the State Council issued the “Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Dawan District Development Plan”, on March 18, China Southern Power Grid announced “China Southern Power Grid Corporation’s key measures to serve the development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District” (hereinafter referred to as “26 key initiatives”.Focus on the strategic positioning of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District, from the comprehensive construction of world-class smart grid, in-depth implementation of innovation-driven development strategy, actively participate in international energy cooperation, and effectively promote the mutual benefit of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao power companies, do a good job in terms of substitution and cleaning alternatives and safeguards, we will fully serve the development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

Eye-opening smart grid project
Hengqin underground cable tunnel. Zhuhai Hengqin is a smart grid demonstration area of  China Southern Power Grid. At present, it has put into operation a power tunnel with a total length of about 22 kilometers, which is part of Hengqin Intelligent Power Transmission. The power tunnel is equipped with equipment such as cable online monitoring system, tunnel video and environmental monitoring system, and network video monitoring system. Among them, there are electric tunnel intelligent robot inspection system, a total of 4 inspection robots and 5 fire-fighting robots, which are respectively arranged in three power tunnels with a total length of about 6.6 kilometers, opening a new mode of “machine inspection and people inspection” in China’s cable tunnels.

Internet and Smart Energy Demonstration Project. Zhuhai’s Internet and smart energy demonstration project began preparations in early 2017. It was approved by the National Energy Administration’s expert group on March 15, 2019, and was included in the “National Energy Internet Development White Paper 2018” on March 29 of the same year. For the first time, the project has clearly defined the ideas and paths of energy Internet construction. It has proposed three construction modes of physical layer, information layer and application layer around the whole city of Zhuhai and the two districts of “Tangjiawan” and “Hengqin”. Four sub-project implementation management of “TangJiawan Soft Distribution Network Project, Hengqin High Reliability Distribution Network Project, Smart Energy Big Data Cloud Platform Project and Smart Energy Operation Management Project”. Among them, the project built the world’s first multi-voltage multi-terminal AC/DC hybrid distribution network in Tangjiawan, Zhuhai. In Zhuhai Hengqin based on 20 KV “double-chain” grid design, integrated multi-level distribution network protection and self-healing control technology, a high reliability 20 KV distribution network was planned.

500 KV Wenshan Substation. The substation carries the important mission of perfecting the main grid in the north of Zhongshan and eliminating the intensive power supply in the northeast. The substation also invested in four intelligent inspection robots, including two indoor GIS patrol robots, one outdoor equipment patrol robot, and one relay room hanging rail robot. It is the 500 KV substation with the most robots in the country,realize the full coverage of intelligent operation and maintenance of equipment in the station.

Looking forward to the future of smart grid in Dawan District
At present, China Southern Power Grid is actively transforming to smart grid operators, energy industry value chain integrators and energy ecosystem service providers, with the goal of building a world-class smart grid, and deepening the planning and construction of smart grids in Dawan District of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and continuously improving Guangdong,Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District Power Grid quality power supply service level.

The “26 Key Initiatives” proposed that China Southern Power Grid invested more than 170 billion yuan in the Pearl River Delta region in 2018-2022, and invested more than 20 billion yuan in the technology research and development of Dawan District Power Grid. China Southern Power Grid will promote the deep integration of artificial intelligence applications. Promote the application of intelligent equipment such as robots and drones, speed up the implementation of “machine replacement” and improve the level of equipment technology. Promote the productization, service, and engineering transformation of high-end manufacturing industries such as advanced sensing, artificial intelligence, high-end components, and power electronics.

Looking into the future, by 2022, China Southern Power Grid will basically build a safe, reliable, green and efficient smart grid. By 2030, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Dawan District are expected to take the lead in building a world-class smart grid.
